their home opener against Kanas City.Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger Mike Wagner Jersey , cornerback Joe Haden and guard David DeCastro could all miss practice time after getting dinged up in a season-opening tie in Cleveland.Roethlisberger is dealing with a right (throwing) elbow issue, Haden has a hamstring problem and DeCastro fractured one of his hands during the four-hour marathon in a monsoon.Coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday he will monitor their participation before making any sort of judgment on whether they will be available when the Chiefs (1-0) visit Heinz Field. The injuries don’t appear to be serious, with Haden the most likely candidate to sit out if his hamstring doesn’t recover in time.Tomlin described Roethlisberger’s achy elbow the byproduct of “the bumps and bruises associated with play.”Roethlisberger raised his concerns after the bizarre 21-21 tie in Cleveland, a game in which the 36-year-old turned the ball over five times, three on interceptions and twice on fumbles. Tomlin said Roethlisberger’s elbow had nothing to do with the miscues.DeCastro fractured his hand during the game but did not miss a play. The All-Pro cleared the way for a pair of touchdown runs by second-year running back James Conner, including a textbook kickout block on Conner’s 22-yard scoring run in the second quarter. If Haden is unable to play, the Steelers will turn to Cam Sutton to fill the void. Sutton grabbed his first career NFL interception when he picked off Tyrod Taylor‘s lob late in the fourth quarter. Sutton’s play was part of what Tomlin described as a “very positive” performance by his team’s restructured secondary.Tomlin also praised the new alignment at outside linebacker of T.J. Watt and Bud Dupree. The two switched sides during the offseason, with Dupree set up to go at the quarterback’s blind side. The two combined for five of Pittsburgh’s seven sacks, four of them going to Watt. The Steelers are also planning to get ready for Kansas City without All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell, who remains out while waiting to sign his one-year franchise tender. Tomlin said he has not had any contact with Bell, who has dominated the Chiefs during his career. He is averaging 126.8 yards rushing against Kansas City in four regular-season games and racked up 170 yards in a divisional round win two years ago.Conner filled in capably for Bell in Cleveland, piling up 192 total yards on 36 touches. Tomlin is not concerned about relying too heavily on Conner Sean Davis Color Rush Jersey , pointing out Conner was a workhorse during his college career at the University of Pittsburgh.“That’s one of the things that made him attractive,” Tomlin said.13 Gallery:FANTASY PLAYS: Week 2 pickups good, but no huge playersBob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports | Bob Donnan The spotlight is something all quarterbacks have to deal with even as rookies in the NFL. Performing well could land them the starting gig.On the flip side, a lackluster outing could result in being stuck behind someone. It  a gift and a curse being a quarterback. Were the young passers’ performances something or nothing?Baker Mayfield, Cleveland BrownsVersus NYG: 11-for-20 with 212 passing yards, 2 touchdownsThe performance was something.Yes, Tyrod Taylor completed all his passes and threw a touchdown, but Mayfield showed up in a big way. He is an absolute gamer as he showed shiftiness in picking up yardage on the ground. The former Heisman trophy winner looked comfortable taking what was available. His patience led to him finding Antonio Callaway and David Njoku for a pair of touchdowns. It time to see him play with the starters.Sam Darnold, New York JetsVersus ATL: 13-for-18 with 96 passing yards, 1 touchdownThe performance was something. It was great to see Darnold take care of the ball and complete a good chunk of his throws. He struggled to do both as a Trojan. Might we be looking at a more refined Darnold? The true answer lies with him starting with the big kahunas. The Jets seem impressed so why not?Josh Allen, Buffalo BillsVersus CAR: 9-for-19 with 116 passing yards, 1 touchdown https://www.steelerssportshop.com/Coty-Sensabaugh-Jersey , 29 rushing yardsThe performance was so-so. Well, we knew the Bills were not anywhere near ready to name a starter for the season opener. We are far from the outcome of the quarterback race between Allen, Nathan Peterman, and A.J. McCarron. With Allen, there was a lot to like, but there are some concerns. His completion percentage and inaccuracy was a concern for scouts in college. Those flaws showed against the Carolina Panthers. But, on the Bills鈥?game-winning drive he was a magician. He kept the drive alive with an 11-yard scamper. Finally, he found Ray-Ray McCloud III for the game-winning throw.Josh Rosen, Arizona CardinalsVersus LAC: 6-for-13 with 41 passing yardsThe performance was鈥othing.Rosen is the most pro-ready quarterback out of the entire bunch, but he can鈥檛 do anything under pressure. I give credit to Gus Bradley for not letting him get comfortable with exotic blitzes. When it looked like Rosen was in rhythm, the wind was taken from his sails. The former Bruin made a great back shoulder throw only for the receiver to fail to get his feet down. There鈥檚 always next year for Rosen.Lamar Jackson Jordan Berry Jersey , Baltimore RavensVersus LAR: 7-for-18 with 119 passing yards, 1 rushing touchdownThe performance was something. Wade Phillips is another one of those wily defensive coordinators sprinkled with sage and rosemary. He called the right blitzes to take Jackson off his spot and panic when his first read was gone. The Rams snookered him into getting sacked twice. If Baltimore stinks, it believed that Jackson could start late in the year. Yet, another low-end game could put him behind a revitalized Robert Griffin III.Mason Rudolph, Pittsburgh SteelersVersus PHI: 7-for-12 with 101 passing yardsThe performance was so-so.The forgotten man. Rudolph will always fly under-the-radar in this 2018 class as he went in the third round. However, he has a bit of an advantage. The former Poke has a chance to grow under a future Hall of Famer in Ben Roethlisberger.Rudolph is a Big Ben prototype except he prefers to stay still in the pocket like a tree-stump. He showed off his big arm like he did at Oklahoma State. Speaking of which, he found his college teammate James Washington on a 35-yard connection. Rudolph needs to refine his intermediate game a bit more as right now he is an all-or-nothing thrower.I know. I know. It just the preseason, but the performances of these young quarterbacks mean a lot. Good habits coupled with smart risks will make these guys starters sooner or later.
