COSTA MESA Michael Badgley Jerseys Stitched , Calif. (AP) — plan to thwart an athletic rookie quarterback making his first postseason start. The Chargers defensive coordinator’s challenge this week though could not be more diametrically different.A day after Los Angeles advanced with a 23-17 victory over Baltimore in an AFC wild-card game, Bradley and the rest of the Chargers were beginning to prepare to face the most experienced postseason quarterback in NFL history in Tom Brady, who will make his 38th playoff start for New England on Sunday.“It’s night and day, there’s no doubt about it but we’ve faced more Brady types than Lamar (Jackson) types,” Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said. “It is still about us playing fast and making plays.”Bradley’s game plan to contain Jackson remained a big topic of conversation on Monday. The Chargers went with seven defensive backs on all but one of Baltimore’s 59 defensive plays as they held Jackson to 54 rushing yards. Jackson was 14 of 29 for 194 yards and two touchdowns, but he had completed only three passes for 26 yards the first three quarters.According to Sportradar, the 58 snaps are the most any team has gone with quarter personnel (seven defensive backs) in any game since the NFL’s Next Gen Stats came online in 2014. The previous high was 31 by Buffalo in a 2016 Week 3 game against Arizona.Los Angeles had previously used seven defensive backs on 15 or more snaps twice this season. They employed it 18 times in a Week 7 win at Cleveland and on 15 plays in the regular-season finale at Denver.“It was a matter of putting our seven best, healthy athletes out there. The coaches did a great job getting us prepared this week,” defensive end Isaac Rochell said.Lynn said he was surprised by Bradley’s idea to use it the entire game and that it led to lots of discussion with the coaching staff leading up to the game, but in the end it was the best move to make.“We may not always agree, we will disagree sometimes, but that was a tough one that worked,” Lynn said.Lynn said a lot of the credit also goes to the defensive line Youth Thomas Davis Jerseys , which was able to get consistent pressure on Jackson. The Chargers got seven sacks, but only rushed five or more on three plays. With the Chargers down to one healthy starting linebacker after Jatavis Brown was placed on injured reserve on Monday, it could be another week where the same strategy could again be used. They used two linebackers on only one play and had one linebacker on 15 snaps. The Chargers base alignment against the Ravens was four defensive linemen and seven defensive backs.Los Angeles was able to make it work because safeties Derwin James, Jahleel Addae and Adrian Phillips are comfortable playing in the box. There were even some snaps where James lined up as a rush end.“We lost two starting ‘Will’ linebackers (including Denzel Perryman earlier in the year) and so we thought that was the best move to make for this week. We were prepared to go the other direction if it didn’t work, but it worked just fine,” Lynn said. The Chargers have lost seven straight to New England, including 21-13 in Week 8 last season. Brady was 32 of 47 for 333 yards but the Patriots had just one touchdown. Bradley’s strategy in that game was to use six defensive backs on 53 of 82 plays.“Sometimes though, New England is a specific game-planning team. They may play you differently than they did another team or they will play you differently than they played you last year,” Lynn said.“I played in that division for eight years and I never saw the same plan. So, that’s just something you have to wait and see and make those adjustments.”Brady has won seven straight against the Chargers after losing the first two and Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has never defeated Brady in seven meetings. They defeated New England in 2008, but that was when Brady was sidelined with a season-ending knee injury. When Arizona plays at the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, rookie Josh Rosen will make his eighth start at quarterback for the Cardinals. It's been a bumpy, up-and-down ride so far."I think he has been pretty good Thomas Davis Jerseys Stitched ," coach Steve Wilks said. "I'd like for him to be a little bit more consistent. We all would, and he would probably tell you the same thing. The biggest thing is that we've got to make sure we limit the takeaways."Arizona is 2-5 with Rosen the starter."I don't think that's good by anyone's standard," the 21-year-old quarterback said.Rosen's statistics aren't impressive. He's completed 55 percent of his passes for 1,416 yards and nine touchdowns, with 10 interceptions. In his last six games, he's thrown for seven TDs and was intercepted eight times. In Arizona's 23-21 home loss to Oakland last Sunday, Rosen threw for a career-best three touchdowns but was intercepted twice. Both interceptions led to Raiders touchdowns. Rosen completed only nine of 20 passes in the game for 136 yards, 59 of them on one play."Some of them are happenstance, " Wilks said of the interceptions, "but some of them could be just a lack of wanting to take the check down. He's trying to force things in there sometimes."Asked what he needs to improve, Rosen said "turnovers is a big thing, but just everything, being 100 percent of your checks Youth Tyrod Taylor Jerseys , 100 percent of your reads. Just constant improvement in as many possible areas."Rosen, by nature, is an aggressive player and he acknowledges having to mitigate that with the willingness to check down and play things safe."There are certain kind of defensive positions where you can try and fit it in," he said. "So, if there's a zone dropping linebacker, there's no way you're going to get it around him, but if it's man coverage and the guy is kind of on his hip, that's something where you can give a guy a shot. ..."But there are certain ones where I don't care how good you are, you're not going to get it complete. Depends on the play, the situation and defense."Rookie wide receiver Christian Kirk said people need to realize how much Rosen is being asked to do."He's got a lot on his plate. I think people forget about that," Kirk said. "But he does a great job in embracing it and I think every week he's just learning to take what the defenses gives him. He's a competitor. He wants to win. So at times he'll put a ball out there that's 50-50. Sometimes it doesn't go our way. But that's just him being a competitor."Seven games into the season, the Cardinals fired offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and replaced him with quarterbacks coach Byron Leftwich. It's the fifth offensive coordinator in four seasons for Rosen, going back to his early days at UCLA. Rosen praises what Leftwich has done for him."There's a lot of stuff within the offense that I didn't know Tyrod Taylor Jerseys Stitched ," Rosen said. "It's an NFL offense. There are always going to be little things here and there. A lot more little tips on leverage and where guys are, which tells you what coverage you're going to get. So, there's a lot of disguise, but you're not allowed to disguise too good or otherwise you're going to be out of position. There are little tips and tells that I've been learning and picking up on."GONZALEZ IS BACK: Zane Gonzalez, the former All-American kicker at Arizona State who played just a little over one season with the Cleveland Browns, is back in Arizona on the Cardinals practice squad. He's seen as insurance for Phil Dawson, who has had some injury problems, as well as perhaps a kicker for the future for the Cardinals.Gonzalez is just glad to get the chance after being cut by the Browns two months ago. He said he's finally recovered from a recurring groin injury and didn't want to talk about his Cleveland experience on Wednesday."That's the past. I don't think about it anymore," he said. "I went back, I watched the tape. There's obviously a lot of issues with injury, amongst other things. I'm not the kind of guy who's going to go out there and make excuses. I took it on the chin for what it was and moved on. I think I earned a lot of respect from people back in Cleveland for that."
